Tithing Print E-mail

Malachi 3:10 “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house.”

Bring in the full tithes to the utmost that the law requires, that there may be meat in God’s house for those who serve at the altar, whether there is meat in your houses or not. Let God be first served, and then “ ‘try Me now in this’, says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven’” (v 10). The expression is figurative; every good gift coming from above, God will plentiful pour out on them the bounties of His providence. Very sudden plenty is expressed by opening the windows of heaven. Here they are opened to pour down blessings to such a degree that there would not be room enough to receive them. God will not only be reconciled to sinners who repent and reform, but He will be a bountiful benefactor to them. God has blessings ready to bestow upon us, but, through the weakness of our faith and narrowness of our desires, we have no room to receive them. Whereas the fruits of their ground had been eaten up by locusts and caterpillars, God would now remove that judgment. Whereas they had lain under the reproach of famine, now all nations shall call them blessed.
