“Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 Print E-mail

No man, having put his hand to the plough, and thus begun well, shall afterwards – Christ does not say TURN back, but who shall even so much as – LOOK back, in token that his heart is otherwhere than in the task before him – he may still have his hand on the plough; but having fallen away in heart and affection from his work, he makes no straight furrows!  He “is not fit,” or rather, is of no service and profit for the kingdom of God.  - TRENCH

Missionaries, who can take everything to Jesus and then get strength to smile and persevere, pull on under any circumstances. – MARY SLESSOR

Go on quietly and according to your strength in the path before you without losing time in looking back:  always “reaching forth unto those things that are before,” not dwelling unprofitably upon depressing falls and hindrances:  sorrowing over them indeed with humility, but putting them aside to press onwards. - FENELON
